3 Things Business School Taught Me that Made Me Ready for Travel
I’m so excited to say that I wrote my last exam of my degree a mere two days ago. Soon to be an official graduate! Assuming I passed all of my classes of course…
In all seriousness though I think a lot of people think I’m crazy for “wasting my life for a year” after getting a degree that can get me a great job.
To these people I would say it’s been business school that has prepared me and shown me that travelling isn’t “wasting your life”. Here are 3 things business school taught me that made me ready for travel.
1. Follow your dreams – otherwise you’ll be stuck working to make someone else’s dreams come true
I don’t remember exactly who said this, I took a couple of entrepreneurship classes and it was likely one of those professors. Nevertheless, it has truly stuck with me ever since. This really resonated because I have always dreamed of being my own boss. To me it feels like one of the only ways to gain freedom in life and do exactly what it is you want to do. Of course, it takes a TON of time and effort, comparative to just showing up for a 9-5 job, but the reward is so much higher.
2. This degree and the skills I’ve learned will let me work anywhere in the world
It’s not just computer science students who code and work from their laptops that can work anywhere in the world. As a digital marketer I too can work from my laptop anywhere in the world. So why wouldn’t I? To me that sounds like the ultimate dream.
I have the knowledge, skills and practical experience to help others and myself with tactics such as search engine optimization, search engine marketing, social media strategies. What can all these things do? They can help any website improve readership, conversions, or whatever your goal is! It’s so exciting to be able to do that from anywhere.
3. The world really is a small place
To some the world is a very big and scary place. Being in this school made me realize that it really isn’t. This faculty has a very strong exchange program. Meaning that a lot of the students go study abroad for a semester at another school. Typically, a semester is only 4 months, but most people stay for a couple months afterwards to do some extra travelling.
Although I never took part in this program, mostly because I didn’t have the time to, it was great to see my fellow students meet up with other students from here in different countries, and how with technology these days all of us back here have been able to stay connected with them and experience their journey too.
3 things business school taught me that made me ready for travel
I know some of you are too lazy to read the whole thing so here you have it, 3 things business school taught me that made me ready for travel. These are some of the most important things that have made me so READY for this upcoming journey.
- Firstly, it taught me to live my dreams, not work to help someone else’s.
- Secondly, it gave me the skills to do so. Allowing me to work from anywhere.
- Lastly, it showed me that there is no reason to be fearful of how big the world is.
I could not be happier that I spent the past 5 years working towards this degree, and I could also not be happier to take the next leap and see what the next chapter brings.
